Additional information: If you are not familiar with the artist known as Purple Unit now, in the very near future you will be. Andrew Zapotochniy from Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, is just starting to scratch away at the surface of what is sure to become a very deep and largely followed career, image and sound, uniquely created as Purple Unit. At only 19 years of age (!) Andrew has his debut single now circulating on promo. "Dreamtime" is seeing release on Step2Zero Recordings, one of the most watched and most influential labels of our time, run by the mighty Paul B. Introduced to music at a very young age, Andrew picked up on playing instruments very easily and quickly. It was then decided to go to music school in Ukraine to study the violin. New faces with a common interest at school, opened new doors and exposed him to more elements in music. Genres like Industrial, Punk and Hardcore all started to work their magic and mold his young mind. Hearing Prodigy`s classic "Breathe" off the "The Fat Of The Land" album on local Ukranian radio one day locked him into electronica. Exploration deeper into this genre helped him discover the detailed ways in electronic composition. His focus quickly changed from reading and playing music on the violin to writing and creating music with hardware/software. His early workings were said to be heavy on the industrial side. It was then in the year 2003 he was exposed to drum and bass culture. Living in the same city as Sunchase and Cyb Orc, he met Alex Pavlenko [Sunchase] online in a chat room. The topic at hand was music production and software programs to be used. The more he talked to him, the more curious he became. Sunchase decided to send him a couple of his tracks and some mixes he had on his computer, to give Andrew a broad idea what drum and bass is all about. Instantly Andrew`s intrest had peeked and his desire to produce dnb was at max. It was from here on in that Sunchase took Andrew under his wing and began to guide him along the path of technological creativity. It was also Sunchase who pointed Paul B in the direction of this youthful talent. Two tracks were passed to Pavel, one being "Dream Time". He liked it so much he decided to sign it and release it on S2Z as 002 b/w Chris.SU & Flack.SU - "Corrosion". This plate is now on promo at all fine record stores across the globe. His latest track to cause a stir in the scene is "Curtain" . Recently signed by U.S. label owner John Merrik & Brandon Miles @ Analogue Trust, Purple Unit will see his second release come forth to the masses in December of this year. Other tunes gaining much notice are "Non Conformist". A super charged tech fused number that is murder at drop. And "Special K". A heavy hipnotic piece, inspired by one of his favorite artists, Desimal. Now performing as a active DJ on the Ukrainian circuit, he has played in venues all across the country with the likes of Sunchase, Cyb Orc, Subwave, Implex, Bes, Ruffen, Zemine & Gyozd to name a few.
